LEAD WATERCRAFT STEWARD WANTED! Oneida and Onondaga Lakes

Position overview
Onondaga Environmental Institute has openings for the position of Lead Watercraft Steward. The Lead Watercraft Steward supervises watercraft stewards, assists with training and enlists volunteer stewards. The majority of the time is spent conducting voluntary inspections of watercraft at public launches and educating watercraft users on how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Watercraft inspections entail removing & identifying plants & debris from boats & trailers & identifying aquatic invasive species. The position is 10-25 hours/week, April through mid-October. The majority of hours will be weekends in the summer with some hours during the week.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Schedule and supervise stewards and volunteers at launches
• Assist with volunteer enlistment, training and support
• Conduct voluntary watercraft inspections working in both beautiful and adverse weather conditions
• Educate boaters and the public about how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species
̶ Converse with watercraft users ̶ Disseminate written materials ̶ Assist with tabling and workshops
• Attend required trainings and learn to identify common native and invasive aquatic species
• Complete data sheet for each inspection using tablets and electronic data-entry software
• Manage all watercraft steward equipment including signs, chairs and educator box
• Attend scheduled staff meetings and provide weekly written updates and photos to supervisor
• Represent OEI in a courteous and professional manner
• Follow and ensure that all supervisees follow all Covid-19 policies required by the program

Qualifications
• Experience leading and/or supervising others
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and enjoyment of interacting with the public
• Able to successfully and clearly present information and ideas to a diverse audience, and to react in a positive, proactive manner in confrontational circumstances.
• College students or recent grads with experience in environmental education, natural resources, biology, environmental studies or a related field are encouraged to apply
• Ability to accurately collect data according to established protocols
• Enjoy working outdoors alone and as part of a team to prevent the spread of invasive aquatic species
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred
• Experience as a watercraft steward
• Experience with Microsoft programs, design software and social media tools

Compensation $13.20/hr

PART-TIME WATERCRAFT STEWARD WANTED! Oneida and Onondaga Lakes

Position overview
Onondaga Environmental Institute has openings for the position of Watercraft Steward on Oneida and Onondaga Lakes. Watercraft Stewards conduct voluntary inspections of watercraft at public launches and educate watercraft users on how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Watercraft inspections entail removing plants debris from boats and trailers & identifying aquatic invasive species. The position is 10-20 hours/week ideally from May 20th- September 30th. The program operates on weekends & holidays. The majority of hours will be Friday-Sunday in the summer.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Compensation $12.50/hr
